The Slice Magazine interviewed the publicity office of His Excellency the Vice President of Malawi Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima. The profile we received from Dr. SKC’s publicity office revealed to us his experiences in the EVER-CHANGING world of business; from working in the private sector to striving to “Make Lives Better”
The third issue of The Slice Magazine gives you an insight of how a young and ambitious ordinary Malawian moved through the CHANCO corridors to make it big in the private sector and become the first Malawian CEO at Airtel Malawi before moving to the public sector and having a shot at the presidency seat.
The article starts with the popular quote by Dr. Chilima: “Mukaona Mbuzi ikuthawa nsipu woniliwira dziwani kuti pali linthumbu.”
Through the article, the writer takes you through the journey of Dr. Chilima from getting his degree at Chancellor College in 1994 to working at the then Lever Brothers (Now Unilever) through to the time he worked for the Leasing and Finance Company of Malawi before changing to Southern Bottlers Limited (Now Castel Malawi). The writer then takes you through his journey to go back to Chancellor College purse for a Masters Degree (2003-2005) which he was awarded after submitting a workplace-relevant dissertation entitled: “The Determinants of Demand for Carlsberg Beer: An Economic Analysis” in June 2005.
The article then reveals that the Vice President of Malawi started working at the then Celtel Malawi Limited (Now Airtel Malawi Limited) in September 2006 before changing from the position of Sales and Distribution Director to become the first Malawian to be appointed as Managing Director of Artel Malawi Limited.
After 20 years of a successful career in the private sector, he then joined politics in February 2014.
